Members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity have always worn or carried canes since the beginning of the Fraternity in 1911. In the 1950's Black Greek Letter Organizations, on an undergraduate level, began to practice what is known today as "Step Shows". The usual design was to pattern the cane with a crimson and a cream stripe. Kappas widely found that while standard length canes worked fine for tapping, they became a hindrance when it came time to twirl. Thus, cane stepping evolved once again with the birth of the short cane. Judges look for several different things in a step routine. "You're looking for transition, how they move from one point to another, "You look at the style and grace." |

Stomp the Yard Theatrical Release Date: Jan 12, 2007 (Wide) DJ, a troubled youth from Los Angeles attending the historically black Truth University in Atlanta, Georgia. When adapting to his new environment proves difficult, DJ finds solace in joining a struggling fraternity where he begins implementing his street-style dance moves in an attempt to help the step team win the coveted National Step Show Championship. Before long DJ becomes the competing fraternity's main rival, while trying to pursue his new love interest, deal with his own troubled past and learn the true meanings of brotherhood and Fraternity along the way. |
